In early May, the Living Child team made the long journey from Wewak to Yamen 2 Village, deep in the Keram region of East Sepik Province. The communities of the Keram Local Level Government area face a reality that is difficult to fully grasp from the outside.

After several months of planning, our inaugural Keram Kids Club was a big success! There is no school in Yamen 2 and we had a huge turnout of over 80 children each day from Tuesday to Friday, ranging from 3 year olds to teenagers.

For many women in remote communities of Papua New Guinea, community volunteers like Village Birth Attendants and Village Health Assistants are the first and only source of support during one of the most dangerous chapters of their lives.

In many parts of the world, a difficult pregnancy is a frightening experience. In a remote village along the Keram River, it will often result in the loss of a mother or babies’ life.

There are many unique challenges and achievements in doing an infrastructure project in such a remote location.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new Keram Kids Club program - bringing children in the communities we serve together for fun, learning, and connection.
