Jodela and Silpia’s Story
Jodela and Silpia live in a remote community in Papua New Guinea, a four-hour boat journey from the nearest hospital in Angoram.
Earlier this year, both welcomed their first child into the world. Silpia gave birth to a son in January, and Jodela welcomed a daughter in April.
Not long ago, women in their community faced pregnancy and childbirth with little support and limited access to trained care. Today, thanks to Village Birth Attendants, community health workers, and local leaders, that reality is beginning to change.
Jodela and Silpia's stories show what is possible when communities are equipped with the knowledge and support they need. But many mothers across the Sepik region still face significant barriers to safe pregnancy and childbirth.
