health
We believe that healthy communities are the foundation for thriving families. In the remote villages of the Keram and Greater Sepik region, access to quality health services is often limited, and preventable illness continues to impact women and children most.
Our Health programs aim to close this gap by combining community-led, preventative health initiatives with workforce training and health system support. We partner with local, district and provincial government to strengthen formal health services - supporting mobile patrols, providing essential supplies, and upgrading aid posts - so that remote communities can access safe, reliable care.
By linking prevention, capacity-building, and service delivery, our Health programs work to ensure that every mother can give birth safely, every family can thrive in a healthy environment, and every community can access the primary health care they need.
Why health matters?
1 in 15 women in Papua New Guinea dies from complications during pregnancy or childbirth.
1 in 10 children dies before the age of five, often from preventable causes like pneumonia, diarrhoea, or malnutrition.
Less than half of the villages in East Sepik Province have regular access to trained health workers or functioning aid posts.
Poor water, sanitation, and hygiene practices contribute to one in three cases of child illness in rural communities.
our approach
We invest in community-based, preventative health initiatives - supplying WASH infrastructure, starting food gardens, and promoting clean environments to prevent snakebite and malaria.
We provide professional development to qualified health workers at the request of government authorities.
We train Village Health Assistants as vital lifelines between women in their community and formal health services.
We support mobile health patrols to provide remote communities with access to family planning, immunisations and regular health care.
We supply essential resources to support women’s health in remote communities, such as clean birth kits and reusable menstrual hygiene kits.
We assist with the refurbishment of aid posts and other vital health infrastructure.
