The story
In 2011, Pastor Yabru Jerry in Papua New Guinea, was asked by a visiting Australian pastor, Michael Bullard, “What are your needs?” He answered, “Our mothers are dying in childbirth. Many men are left widowed and children without their mothers. Please can you send a Midwife to give training to our Village Birth Attendants.”
In August 2012, Midwife, Sara David from Perth, Western Australia, travelled to the remote village of Yamen in East Sepik Province. She listened to the stories of the women and Village Birth Attendants and was deeply moved to make a difference. The Vision was born.
In March 2013, with the support of family and friends, she started the charity Living Child Inc. Since then, several volunteer Nurses, Midwives and First Aid trainers have joined Sara to bring hope to the lives of young families in some of the most remote areas in the world.
Local champions have joined the mission and now a sustainable march towards quality maternal and newborn health is rippling across East Sepik Province.
Mother Teresa was recorded as saying that when you look at the masses, you will feel overwhelmed, but if you look at the ONE, you will make a start. It is our aim to look at the ONE and keep looking for the ONE.
OUR VISION
That women in the communities in which Living Child Inc. works, will be able to choose when and how many children they have, that they will be able to give birth safely and their children will have every opportunity to grow and thrive.
